Dr. Alexis Petri is an accomplished educational leader and Associate Research Professor at UMKC. As the Founder and Director of the Office of Research Development, she is dedicated to advancing social justice, fostering inclusion, promoting access, and shaping public policy within the academic sphere. With a rich background in guiding non-traditional students through the transition to college and career pathways, Alexis has demonstrated exceptional leadership in establishing and overseeing high-impact learning programs that form the bedrock of vital campus-community collaborations.
At UMKC, Alexis serves as the driving force behind the Office of Research Development and holds the esteemed role of Pillar Lead for Research and Creativity at the Center for Advancing Faculty Excellence (CAFE). Her extensive research portfolio comprises participation in over thirty funded projects, generously supported by federal, state, and local sponsors.Dr. Petri's research expertise centers on critical areas, including access to postsecondary education, urban education, civic engagement, service-learning, storytelling, and the promotion of inclusivity in STEM fields. Presently, she is actively engaged in three pioneering research projects aimed at revolutionizing traditional higher education in favor of tailored approaches and enhanced equity.A lifelong learner and devoted Roo, Dr. Petri holds three degrees from UMKC, reflecting her unwavering commitment to the institution. Her visionary leadership in establishing the Office of Research Development underscores her dedication to supporting the grant research process. Driven by a genuine passion for her colleagues' research pursuits, she leverages her expertise in grant writing to refine and fortify competitive proposals.
