You’re invited to the UMKC Research Speakers Series held the third Thursday of the month at 3:00 P.M. during the academic year. Join us on zoom to hear Sean O’Brien, professor of law, and Ayyoub Ajmi, associate director of the Leon E. Bloch Law Library, discuss their scholarship. Professor O’Brien is the 2022 recipient of the N.T. Veatch Award for Distinguished Research and Creativity. Professor O’Brien’s and Mr. Ajmi’s wrongful convictions scholarship and litigation has resulted in the correction of 20 unconstitutional death sentences and the freedom of 15 additional wrongly convicted persons.  

Professor O’Brien’s scholarship is interdisciplinary and focuses where law and forensic science intersect, particularly with respect to human development, social work, and mental health.
